Carbon Based Souls formed out of a desire to change
the Our Smiling Jesus Band
image. We'd grown tired of getting turned down for gigs because
of our name so we tried to find a new, better name. Unfortunately
we picked another long name that was difficult to remember. Also,
using the initials CBS was a pretty lame idea. Ah, the folly of
youth. Sigh.
Well, all that aside we headed down to Tennessee
to make our second major recording, this one would be produced by
Mitch Hinds. It's soooo much better than Nailed
in terms of production quality, but we never truly completed it.
This album, which still stands as one of the best things I've ever
recorded, was never released. Carbon Based Souls broke up several
months after the recording of this album despite efforts to replace
the two band members that were either leaving for grad school or
spiraling into heroin addiction.
Oh the 90s...
Alas, the songs:
Dignity-
kinda like Breathe
from Nailed, but much better production and more rocking lyrics
Wherewithal
- um, pretty heavy rocking and wailing. This was my favorite to
play live.
Insecurity
- so much blazing guitar going on here and super sensitive-o-rama
lyrics.
